CATS FOR CLUNKERS   

      Did you miss out on the "Cash for Clunkers" program?  Perhaps your car didn't qualify or you weren't looking to replace it with a new one.  An adoption stimulus program offered by the Friends of Placer County Animal Shelters at the "Cat House" at 11556 D Avenue in Auburn (next to the Senior Multi-purpose center in the former DeWitt complex) might rev your engine.  For a limited time, Friends will waive the adoption fee if you donate a car truck or SUV when you adopt a cat. 

    Friends is a non-profit charity, so you can donate a car without adopting and get the benefit of tax-deductibility but if you have been wanting a feline friend, now is an especially good time to make a deal. 

     

      Most of the cats needing homes are 2008 models or older.  Instead of 4 wheels they have 4 legs and unlike even the smallest compact car, most will comfortably fit in a lap.  There are a variety of styles to choose from - some sleek streamlined models and some shaped more like Uncle Mert's old Buick; most purr similarly to a luxury automobile.
   

      If you don't have a vehicle to donate, that's not a problem.  Regular adoptions are going on too,  Saturdays and Sundays. Or call 530 823 6828 for an appointment.  But hurry! The program ends soon! 
 
    The Cat House was set up about 10 years ago because the County animal shelter just was not big enough to handle a sudden influx of 92 cats from a hoarding case.  Since then, Friends has kept nearly four thousand cats there before being adopted.  The Friends organization, using mostly volunteer labor, has been running the Cat House as a service to the animals and the community since 2000.
